Flexible Instruction Days

In 2020, North Allegheny was granted permission to use Flexible Instruction Days (FIDs) in place of school days that are canceled due to inclement weather or other emergency situations. District information here.

Special Education Considerations:
The individualized needs that are addressed in an IEP or 504 document will need to be considered for FIDs. Proactively talk with your team at your yearly document review or sooner about how the accommodations, modifications, and possible missing service hours will be altered for a FID. For grades 6 and up, include the student in discussions of concerns and solutions as much as possible. If the team is experiencing uncertainty, the plan could be to gather information from the first FID, then review the experience and document how difficulties will be addressed in the future. (We hope to provide a guided worksheet soon.)

There are sure to be bumps in the road as this new process begins, but the idea is to minimize them over time and make the Flexible Instruction Days as positive as possible.
